Pre grade R outing to Giraffe House
On 19 October 2022, the Vrolike Groepe children went to Giraffe House – The outing was sponsored by funding provided by Weideman Family to cover the costs of the transport and entrance fee of the day – Giraffe house staff were very friendly and we received a school outing reduced price – but a must see for young children on primary school level. Seeing these animals in real life – is something you will never forget.
As a youngster, you read stories about various animals and you see it on television – but there is no danger of getting hurt or actually touching them – how it feels or how it smells .
The park attendant explained to the children that they cannot touch certain animals – like the Bullfrog. Some of them was so brave to touch the Iguana and the snake – and Teacher Natasha moved to the back -Not as brave as some of our little ones. By some of the fences, we had to warn children not to poke their fingers through the fence and not to stand so close to the ostrich fence – because the ostrich head could lean over the fence – and we know they light shiny things.
Children were talking amongst each other about Ninja Turtles and what they heard about the various animals – the park attendant also spoke about the Big Five animals that are on our money – and the smaller ones knew the which coins but struggled a bit with the bigger notes – Don’t think their parents show them the R 100 and R 200 notes.
Natasha was reminding them of the stories they read in class and they watched as the giraffe ate leaves from the tree branch – towering above us all. During this quarter, the children learnt about the farm animals and wild Animals and have focussed their knowledge on the sounds they make and what they eat and where they are found.
Also big thank you to:
Pinelands NG Church members who donated R 400 towards the outing.
The driver, Mr Bean – who transported our kids safely to and from the school.
